The Academic Year runs from September to August:-

Each term has a half term holiday of one week in the middle of it

Pre-School

Many children have some pre-school experience before coming to nursery.

The children will usually have 3 terms in nursery before transferring to a reception class.

REMINDER: ATTENDANCE AT OUR NURSERY DOES NOT GUARANTEE A PLACE IN OUR SCHOOL

Reception

The children will have the opportunity for a whole year in Reception. Some parents may choose to defer their child’s entry into Reception until later in the school year. Parents of the summer born children may now defer application for a year.

Junior Transfer
Years 3-6

Then Year 2

Hertfordshire County Council has an application process for Year 2 children in infant schools to move into Year 3. Parents will receive an application form whilst their child is in Year 2 to select their choice of schools.

Children in our infant school will be given preference over children from other schools in the allocation of places to Brookland Junior School unless the other child has a statement of Special Educational Need or medical need.

At the end of each academic year, classes usually move up in their class groups. However, with some cohorts, we may decide to reorganise class groups across the year group to redress the balance of ages, gender mix and ability range. Children will always be moved with a friend.
