At Brookland Infant and Nursery School we know that learning about e-Safety is vital to ensure that children are safe in the online learning environment. In school the children learn about safe use of technology and they learn about the measures to take if they become aware of unsuitable online material.
We encourage children to THINK about safe use of technology.

Online Safety is taught as part of our lessons and children learn about safe use of technology in assemblies and from books and videos which are appropriate to the age of the children in our school.
We work with parents to ensure messages about eSafety are consistent and hold a yearly presentation for parents and carers. Our website gives up to date information and ‘How to’ guides and we publish the regular Hertfordshire newsletters.
In the world that our children are living in today it is vital that we are realistic – excluding children from technology will not work. Our children will be less likely to report a problem if they are worried that reporting will lead to them losing their right to use technology. In our school we educate children about safe use of technology.
Search engines
Please note that no search engine is ever 100% safe and the children use safe search engines in school. We model using different search engines using “safe words” and we teach the children about copyright and ownership of online materials. Some search engines your children may use are;
- Kiddle
- CBBC
- Britannica for kids
Google offers a safer search option for children searching on the Internet. The guide provides further information on how to set up safe searching on Google and can be downloaded from the link below ‘Stay Safe Online’.
Gaming
When children are accessing games via Xbox LIVE, privacy settings can be set up. To find out more about privacy settings for X box read the guide below.
